When my siblings and I were younger, our Dad would always be playing music in the house while we were drawing or playing in the other room. When we were little, it would be his favorite jazz or R&B. As we got older, we'd share what we liked and we'd talk about it. So many times, we'd play a new song we liked and he'd find the original song that the new song used for a sample. Of course, we'd sit there looking a little surprised and annoyed, while he enlightened us.

When my Dad sat down to make his 3-D computer art, there was always music in the background. He seemed so focused and immersed in the process that he could easily tune us out.

I tend to carry on the the same behavior, opting for music or audio books while I create things. I recently discovered a great audio book called Miss Scarlet's School of Patternless Sewing. It was an inspiring and exciting story about a girl who loves to sew so much that she chases her dream as far as it will take her. Whether or not you like sewing, it is a good read.

When I create, I like surround myself with the creativity of others. It keeps me motivated.
