A Kimono Inspired Jacket

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

The Story: This pattern was attractive to me because I love jackets and I thought this would be a great way to use fun prints in a versatile way.

Pattern: Simplicity Pattern 1318 Misses' Kimono Jackets

Fabric: Arica Purple Rayon Challis Fabric from Hancock Fabrics and 100% Terivoile with a hand dyed look – a gift from a friend who went to the Bahamas.

Notions: Items on the instructions.

How did it look compared to the pattern? I used view C and it looked very similar. The medium seemed really big on me, so I went with a small to my surprise. I used French seams on the inside.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

Likes? This was a relatively fast and easy to sew project. The fabrics I used are light and breezy, so it is very comfortable.

Dislikes? None! But this doesn't look anything like a kimono.

Pattern changes? No changes. I did find a good review from Brittany Jones on YouTube that I used as a guide. Her advice on the sleeves was extremely helpful.

Will I sew this again? Yes, I’m thinking about making the same kimono, but reversing the fabric placements.

Here's my photos of the finished garment!
