The Story: This top looked like something I could make with some leeway around the fit. Since it wraps and ties, then I can adjust the size easily. I also really like wrap around tops, so I wanted to give this one a try. I also discovered a fashion designer based in Ghana who designed magnificent garments featured in the Vlisco Anniversary Fashion show – Stylista. Her designs are exquisite and beautiful! She uses the patterns on the fabric in creative ways, so I was inspired by her to cut the hem and the neckline around the design of the fabric.

Pattern: Simplicity Pattern 8137 Misses' and Plus Size Wrap Dresses, Top, and Pants

Fabric: Muslin and black Polyester Lining (leftover) from JoAnn’s Fabrics; white Habutae lining from Golden D’Or, and Guaranteed Wax Block Print Super Wax from Houston.

Notions: Items on the instructions plus a clear button.

How did it look compared to the pattern? I used view C for the top. It looked the same.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, but I did run into some challenging situations.

Likes? I love how it fits and how it looks!

Dislikes? I should have done more understitching of the lining.

Pattern changes? I did make decorative alterations on the neckline and front hem to follow the print. I also added a button and button hole on the inside front to keep the top from sliding open. I might make it a little larger on the bust area. I also decided to try Hong Kong seams on this garment. I think I will use that technique more often.

Will I sew this again? I plan to make the dress. I really like how this looks!
