Poncho using Butterick B5993 Misses' Shawls and Cowl-Neck Tops

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

The inspiration for this project was my friend Jennifer's birthday. I figured I could just make a poncho based on my cream colored cape, but I went searching for a pattern instead. It took me a while to decide on one, but I ended up buying Butterick B5993 - Misses' Shawls and Cowl-Neck Tops.

Fabric: African inspired cotton from Fabrictopia, Nicole Miller Silky Solid Crinkle Fabric-Black 100% Polyester

Notions: Items on the instructions including black thread. I added , a black closure, black fringe and a Mystery Maracuja tag.

How did it look compared to the pattern? I used View A and it looked the same.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

Likes? It was straight forward.

Dislikes? None.

Pattern changes? Instead of cutting two back pieces, I cut one. I added the lining with the black fabric to give it a little more warmth and luxurious feel. I lined the bottom with black fringe to make it a little more fun. I decided not to use the closure so she could have the option to use a pin of her choice. I also cut a belt inspired by Mimi G Style.

Will I sew this again? Absolutely. I can't wait to make one for me. I just need to pick out some fabric.

Would I recommend this to others? Sure!
